Wy'east Board Meeting
October 3, 2007
Present: Rev. Susan Maginn, Barbara Smith-Thomas, Karl Arruda, Mark Alter, Jill De Rosa, and Joanne Foulkrod.
TREASURER'S REPORT: According to Joanne, we continue to receive pledges at a high level, and we have not been spending much money lately. 25% of the church year has passed and we have collected 29% of budgeted income. Wy'east received $526.00 in memory of Nestor Perala. This money was deposited in the building fund. The special collection for September was for Hands on Portland and $194.25 was collected.
OCTOBER 14 RETREAT: Will be held at Barbara's house, from 11-3. There will be a potluck lunch.
NOVEMBER/DECEMBER BOARD MEETINGS: There will be a change in our usual schedule due to upcoming holidays. November 7th, November 28th, and December 12th.
MINUTES: The Board minutes were approved as read.
MINISTER'S REPORT: Rev. Maginn's report was distributed and discussed. We need to recruit someone to replace Rich H, office director, whose last day is October 31st. He is returning to paid employment and will no longer be available.
INTERNET ACCESS: Per Anders L's suggestion, we will change to Juno dialup internet and Bluehost webhosting, with 2 months of overlap with prior provider.
RECOGNIZING HANNA N: Wy'east wants to recognize Hanna's 10 years of volunteer web mastering. Will ask her husband, James, what gift Hanna might appreciate.
FIRE DRILL: We have not had one. Jill will elicit Cindy's help in counting smoker detectors and Jill will contact Waverly's building and grounds person, Paul K, regarding plans to have a fire drill. We may want to set off smoke detectors, as part of a drill, without having the Fire Department arrive.
VETERAN'S CENTER POTLUCK: Mark discussed an upcoming potluck to support veterans. Will be announced at the pulpit. To be held near 82nd and NE Sandy. Mark has the details. All thought this would be a relevant social action.
BUILDING SEARCH: Accessibility ranked number 1 per congregants and friends who filled out wish list. Discussed looking for individuals who may be interested in forming a building search committee. Perhaps a standard e-mail could be created and sent to prospective sites. Alternative schools were brought up as a possibility.
NEXT BOARD MEETING: Wednesday, November 7, 7:15.
