Wy'east Board minutes for May 4th, 2010 --
Present were Alex, Hank H., Tode, Susan, Becky S., Mark, Elizabeth, Dan, Karl --
First we did check-ins.
Then the minutes from the April 12th meeting were approved.
Annie H. will be leaving her RE teaching position in two weeks. We discussed our options given this. One is to hire another teacher as of September. A possibility is hiring the second choice person at our last RE opening, who was also considered a strong candidate. As of the immediate future, Ashley is about to be our one RE teacher. And an option we have to work with in this regard is to have more integenerational services in the near term.
An idea was proposed to have an exit interview with Annie. Might Susan do this interview... Or someone else, like Alex as the Board RE liaison, or the RE Committee...
Elizabeth is beginning to get some feedback from the congregation about her creating alternative Sunday morning worship services. Not surprisingly, some members favor them, some don't. Her general guideline for them is what will deepen UU spirituality... And another aspect of these alternative services is that the facilitator should lead from her or his areas of strength.
The childcare person for our two congregational meetings in May is arranged for. As is food for the kids.
Karl will hand out pledge letters this coming Sunday, letting people know where they stand on their pledges.
Karl gave the Treasurer's report. We are in basically okay shape. We underestimated the tax payments for our employees, but this fact is not news as of this Board meeting.
We talked about doing a fundraiser with Kate S. and other musicians. Mark will check into date availability for Kate and the Senior Center.
Our budget for this year has been $49,000. We may be able to reach that again, with our current pledge level for 2010-2011 being $36,000 (but likely going up to at least $40,000 when all the pledges are received); plus two fundraisers bringing in $3,000 ($1,500 apiece); plus $3,000 in the Sunday collection boxes over the course of the next church year; plus perhaps working with Eastrose, on how they manage to raise more money than we do at their fundraisers.
An extensive conversation about budget options followed.
