Wy'east UU Board Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, April 8, 2025 (Approved May 6, 2025)

 

Present: Debra T., Larry B., Kathy S., Marcy S., and Leslie B.M.

Absent:  Diane A.

 

Meeting Minutes 

  • March Meeting Minutes
    • Minutes moved and approved
  • Small Groups- Social Justice Picnic was a big turn out and it was great!
    • There is a book club going on, and next meeting is the 17th of April
  • Religious Education: 
    • Debra will see if there are any books we can resource in the RE cabinets
    • Debra will ask Lana if there are any easy lessons in the UU children’s curriculum that could be a grab and go situation if younger children arrive.
  • Treasurer Report:
    • Balances are up about $7600 in the savings and checking accounts from last year to this year.
    • The budget for 2024-25 almost breaks even from income and expenses.
    • For 25-26 budget Larry will probably do a similar budget to before.
    • Question: Do we have a plan to hire someone for RE next year?
      • The board discussed that it is important to have an aspirational budget and to include an RE Director budget 
    • Sunday May 4th Sunday will be “Proposed Budget Presentation” after the service 
      • Marcy will email Gigi to put this date in the newsletter.
    • Tax document: some board members couldn’t find their document and others said that the document would open at first but later wouldn’t open, like it was time-sensitive.
      • Larry will get with Gigi to see if we can send that out again to everyone.
  • Annual Meeting:will be May 18th after the service
    • We need a quorum of people present.
    • Marcy will email Gigi the dates to put in newsletter
  • Nomination Committee: is Ron still on the Nominating Committee?
    • We will need replacement board members for: Diane A., Kathy S., and Marcy S., 
    • Larry is willing to do a 3rd year if necessary. 
    • Kathy will email Ron to see who is on this committee ASAP
  • Canvas Committee:
    • Ask Bruce to see if he wants to be in this committee
      • Kathy will get in touch with Bruce to ask ASAP
      • Debra will volunteer if needed to say a testimonial at this Sundays online service
    • In the past, the canvas committee has asked members to talk about why they are committed to pledging to Wy’East at a couple of services.
    • The checklist of what the committee needs to do is somewhere in the Google Drive 
  • Staff contracts & pay rates:
    • The UUA recommends a 2.6% increase for staff compensation, including the minister salary.
    •  Larry thinks we should stay with the UUA recommendation.
    • Moved to approve this 2.6% salary increase for staff and minister compensation.
      • Approved unanimously.
      • Larry will let D’on know of the salary increase.
  • Worship Committee Report
  • Social Justice Committee Report
    • Vote on Social Justice theme for the year “We Are Stronger Together”
    • One question is should the theme focus on the marginalized and vulnerable populations? Or is the theme to be able to reach across different backgrounds that are different from ours (which is more broad)?
      • We are going to table this vote, the Social Justice Committee will see if they want to narrow the focus or not, and the board will vote via email once it is revised, if needed
  • Minister Report- No report at this time
  • Membership Committee Report- no report at this time
  • Accessibility of space suggestions from Leo Ruthe
    • This is ongoing and is currently being discussed.
  • Jan 19th Update on Vision Meeting-
    • Kathy and Leslie will be sure that the consensus group will be meeting soon

 

To Do’s and Who

  • Marcy will contact committee chairs for their annual report 
  • Marcy will send the March minutes to Gigi to post.
  • Marcy will notify Gigi of the Budget Proposal Presentation and the Annual Meeting date to post in the newsletter
  • Debra will find out more info about RE resources from Lana and if we have books that could be used
  • Larry will be working on the proposed budget for next year,  ask Gigi to send 2024 tax document again to members, and let D’onknow of the salary increases for staff.
  • Kathy will email Bruce to see if he is willing to lead the Canvas Committee, email Ron to see who the Nominating Committee members are to start recruiting efforts for the 3 open board seats, and get back to us on the finalized Social Justice Theme for the year via email.
  • Leslie and Kathy will work on a date for Vision group  to meet about next steps
