Theodore Parker was a Unitarian minister and one of this country’s best-known public speakers in the middle years of the 19th century. He was a theologian of freedom and an activist in the cause of abolishing slavery, though a number of colleagues turned against him for his powerfully rational approach to Bible teachings.
